In Scotland we have a Scottish Government sitting in a Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood, Edinburgh. Why did we end up with that? What are the events that led to the formation or “re-opening” of such a thing?

If you listen to people from Labour discussing it, they claim the glory for it and the late Donald Dewar is held in almost saintly awe over his work to see the project come to fruition. Now let’s get down to the truth of the situation.

I'm a JSA Claimant

Food bank use is at record high says the headlines. Trussell Trust released figures recently that show that 1,109,309 three day parcels were handed out. The primary reasons are shown below.

For nearly 3 years now I’ve been tweeting about food banks and the efforts made by local communities to support them. For almost 3 years I have shown examples of families who have needed them, some with dramatic stories that normally involve the DWP or another Government department not doing their job or being overly officious. For all that time I have tried not to become one of their statistics but now it has reached a point where I feel I have no choice.

Wait a minute, though, you say, we know that Scotland is a country. It has its own flag and anthem and football team; its own legal and educational systems; it even has two national drinks. It must be a country.

But although most of us are convinced that Scotland is a country, I’m afraid it isn’t. Not if you consider a country to be a sovereign state. Slovakia, Latvia and Luxembourg are countries, but Scotland is a region.
